The Jülich Supercomputing Centre at Forschungszentrum Jülich has been operating supercomputers of the internationally highest performance class since 1987. Computing time on these computers is granted by a comparative scientific peer review process to researchers in Germany and Europe.

JSC has approx. 200 experts working on all aspects of supercomputing and simulation. The main research focus is on mathematical modelling and numerical, parallel algorithms, which are developed in simulation laboratories dedicated to specific scientific fields and are used in applications from neuroscience, computational biology, material science as well as energy and climate research. In the realm of computer science, JSC researchers focus on cluster computing, performance analysis of applications, visualization, computational steering and federated infrastructures.

In funded projects and co-operations with hardware and software firms, such as IBM, Intel and ParTec, as well as NVIDIA, JSC drives development towards exaflop systems and tackles the challenges associated with scaling up the next-generation supercomputers.
