In July 2018, the first module of JSC's current HPC system JUWELS (Jülich Wizard for European Leadership Science) went into operation at JSC. JUWELS will consist of multiple, architecturally diverse but fully integrated modules designed for specific simulations and data science tasks.

JUWELS is a modular system to be set up in several steps. The current cluster module (CPU) is equipped with about 2500 dual-socket Intel-Skylake Platinum 8168 nodes. About 2 % of the nodes are equipped additionally with 4 Volta GPUs. The theoretical peak performance sums up to 12 petaflops. According to the TOP500 list, JUWELS delivers a Linpack-performance of 6.2 petaflops (Rmax).
