Supercomputer SuperMUCSuperMUC at LRZ

With a peak performance of about 3 Petaflops, LRZ’s flagship computer SuperMUC is currently Europe’s second fastest supercomputer and ranks 9th on the current TOP500 world wide list (June 2013). The IBM System X iDataPlex consisting of 155,000 cores, which was officially inaugurated in July 2012, is not only fast but highly energy-efficient thanks to hot-water cooling technology. SuperMUC is designed as general purpose HPC system, which allows an exceptionally versatile deployment. More than 150 different applications run on the LRZ system per year. SuperMUC is being used for a wide spectrum of science and research tasks, ranging from medical and engineering & energy applications to astrophysics.
