German Student Team Invited to Participate in SC26 Student Cluster Competition

This year, SC26 is commemorating 20 years of SCC in a big way. Since its debut in 2007, the SCC has grown into one of the signature events of the SC conference series, challenging teams of undergraduate students from around the world to design, build, and run high-performance computing (HPC) clusters in a live, 48-hour competition, using real scientific workloads.
The competition has become popular with universities around the world, and each competition has an increasingly competitive application process. The GCS-supported team, representing the Erlangen National High Performance Computing Center (NHR@FAU) and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), are honored to have been officially invited to participate in the competition, and GCS feels it all the more important to support this German student team’s involvement in a prestigious international competition.
While the students benefit from the experience of the competition, organizations, universities and companies also benefit from the SCC. “Developments in HPC are moving quickly,” said Dr. Claus-Axel Müller, Managing Director of GCS. “We see supporting enthusiastic students is also investing in the future of HPC in Germany. These opportunities hopefully motivate students to look closer at career opportunities in HPC and how new, emerging technologies are shaped at our centers.”
The team is supported by its advisor Jan Laukemann, M. Sc. and consists of six team members:
