SUPERCOMPUTING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The newest generation of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems, such as large-language models like ChatGPT, need large volumes of training data and ample computing power as they are being developed. GCS has clearly identified the enormous growth in demand for AI resources and together with our partner centres and funding agency, the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), we have systematically updated our access methods to provide new opportunities for academic and industrial users alike to access Germany’s leading high-performance computing (HPC) resources to accelerate and improve AI applications.

While there has always been the opportunity to access computing time from Germany’s HPC resources for AI applications, particularly in the so-called Tier 1 and Tier 2 HPC systems that comprise GCS’s system portfolio, there is strong interest in expanding access and improving their visibility.

GCS HPC Infrastructure is AI Ready

AI users are welcome at GCS centers and are fully supported by our staff experts at our centres. We provide all necessary support for gaining access to computing resources, assisting you with deciding which system should be used for a given research case, and offering extensive training courses and workshops to answer key questions and improve users’ abilities to effectively use our resources to accelerate their AI research.

There are already a significant number of AI projects running on GCS systems, particularly in the realm of large language models, that are managed as large-scale projects.

By further expanding our HPC infrastructure with an eye toward enabling AI applications, we will develop new resources and create new opportunities for AI applications at our centers.

Access For Large and Medium-Sized Companies

In addition to the widespread use of GCS’s computing infrastructure by the academic research community in Germany, our systems are also available to both major companies as well as small and medium-sized enterprises. AI Web Seminar Q&A Café

In addition to our numerous AI training courses and workshops every year, we also welcome you to join us for our regular AI web seminar and Q&A Café, a shared initiative between GCS and NHR:

Joint Initiative GCS and NHR  “AI – From Laptop to Supercomputer” – Every Thursday Q&A Café from 14:00 to 15:00. To join, click the following link: http://go-nhr.de/ai_on_hpc_vconf
