On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) released the second edition of its brochure series Rechnen für eine bessere Zukunft (Computing for a Better Tomorrow). The theme underscores the ultimate mission of GCS: Providing cutting-edge high-performance computing (HPC) technologies to aid in science and research in Germany and Europe. For this edition, GCS published both a German and an English version of its image brochure.

Like the first issue, the 2017 GCS brochure describes the added value that HPC brings to society by highlighting exemplary research activities in a variety of scientific fields capable of leveraging the petascale computing power of the three GCS HPC systems—Hazel Hen of the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS), JUQUEEN of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC), and SuperMUC of the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ). It also reflects on GCS's intensified focus on getting its HPC users from various scientific and industrial fields well-prepared to fully leverage the vast computing power offered to them by elaborating on the various expanded training and education programs and intensified workshops arranged by the three GCS centres. The brochure also looks toward the future, highlighting bright young minds using supercomputing for new and novel research aims.
