At the end of 2017, staff at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Garching near Munich embarked on 8 subprojects focused on getting the centre certified as a safe, efficient, and transparent data facility. The centre spent €150,000 in certification, employee training, and external support, and also added 2new staff positions, and reworked its data management structure to be as transparent as possible, and in autumn, 2019, LRZ was officially recognized by certification company DEKRA for excellence in data security and transparency under the ISO/IEC 20000 and ISO/IEC 27001 frameworks.
LRZ is the first German and European scientific high-performance computing centre to be awarded these certifications.
